...Historic inclusion milestone as Enugu disability community gains stronger representation in the Governor’s administration

ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA – The promise of inclusive governance is gradually becoming a reality in Enugu State as Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah appoints three members of the disability community as Technical Advisers to the Governor, marking another significant step towards greater representation and participation of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in governance.

The appointments have been warmly received by the disability community, with the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Enugu State Persons With Disabilities Commission, Eze Jude Chuka, describing the development as a remarkable milestone in the history of disability inclusion in the state.

According to him, the appointments represent more than political recognition; they demonstrate a growing commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities have a voice in government and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the development of Enugu State.

Chuka noted that Governor Mbah had already taken a significant step during his first tenure by establishing a dedicated Commission for Persons With Disabilities, creating an institutional platform for addressing the needs, aspirations and rights of the disability community.

He said the latest appointments further reinforce the Governor’s commitment to inclusion, adding that the community is beginning to witness the practical benefits of policies and promises aimed at improving their participation in public life.

The newly appointed Technical Advisers represent the three senatorial zones of Enugu State, reflecting a geographically diverse representation of the disability community.

Eze Robinson Uchenna hails from Igboeze North Local Government Area, Umuozzi Ward 2, Igogoro, representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

Chidera Nnamani is from Enugu East Local Government Area, Mbuluiyiukwu Ward, representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone.

Obiegue Josephat Chukwunwike hails from Achi Uno Ward 1, Oji River Local Government Area, representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone.

The appointments have generated renewed optimism among members of the disability community, who see the development as an opportunity to strengthen advocacy, promote accessibility and ensure that disability-related concerns receive greater attention within government.

Speaking on the development, Eze Jude Chuka expressed profound appreciation to Governor Peter Mbah for what he described as a bold demonstration of inclusive leadership.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Hon. Frank Anioma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, for his support and role in advancing the interests of persons with disabilities.

Chuka called on Local Government Chairmen, Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the state to emulate the Governor's example by creating meaningful opportunities for persons with disabilities.

He stressed that inclusion must extend beyond public declarations to reflect in employment, appointments, empowerment programmes, accessibility and participation in decision-making at every level.

According to him, the disability community is looking forward to a future where individuals are recognised for their abilities, contributions and potential rather than defined by their disabilities.

The Commission's Chairman also urged members of the disability community to remain united, supportive and focused on their collective progress.

He cautioned against internal divisions and distractions that could undermine the gains already being made, emphasising that unity remains essential to achieving greater opportunities and sustainable inclusion.

He expressed confidence that the appointments would inspire further action across government institutions and encourage more persons with disabilities to participate actively in public service.

The development represents an encouraging moment for disability advocacy in Enugu State, as the community continues to push for equal opportunities, dignity, representation and meaningful participation in governance.

With the establishment of the Enugu State Persons With Disabilities Commission and the appointment of three members of the disability community as Technical Advisers to the Governor, advocates say the state is taking important steps towards building a more inclusive society.

The community is hopeful that the appointments will serve as a foundation for wider inclusion across the state's political, administrative and developmental structures.

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has taken a significant step. The expectation now is that inclusion will continue to grow, reaching every local government, every institution and every segment of the disability community.

ENUGU PWDs ARE READY! INCLUSION HAS STARTED. THE FUTURE IS PROMISING!

Eze Jude Chuka, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Enugu State Persons With Disabilities Commission, expressed his appreciation to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the appointments and renewed commitment to disability inclusion.
