...As SUMAS VC,SUG, SUMASTH Management and Medical Staff, appreciate Gov Mbah's water intervention efforts through CSDA.
The Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA),has commissioned four(4) gigantic rehabilitated boreholes/water projects at the Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), its Teaching Hospital(State University of Medical and Applied Sciences Teaching Hospital) and the Mother and Child Hospital under the Nigerian Community Action Resilience and Economic Stimulus(NG-CARES) programme to improve access to potable water and strengthen basic service delivery in the institutions.
The commissioning marks Governor Peter Mbah's significant intervention in addressing water supply challenges affecting the university community and healthcare facilities, where reliable access to water is essential for academic activities, hygiene, sanitation, and effective healthcare delivery.
These water project includes four mega rehabilitated boreholes.
At SUMAS, the Agency Commissioned one rehabilitated ultra modern mega borehole which now serves thousands of students at the male hostel.
The Agency Commissioned two rehabilitated ultra modern mega boreholes at the SUMATH Teaching Hospital, headed by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Okafor, these two mega boreholes serve the staff and management of SUMASTH,as well as hundreds of patients that make use of water every minute in the Teaching Hospital because the water reticulates round the building facilities.
And an additional borehole was also commissioned at the Mother and Child Hospital, bringing the total number of boreholes rehabilitated and commissioned across the three facilities to four.
Speaking during the commissioning, the Vice-Chancellor of SUMAS, Prof James Ogbonna , expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Government and CSDA for the intervention, describing it as timely, particularly as students return to campus and the university continues to expand its academic programmes and infrastructure.
Prof. Ogbonna highlighted the remarkable growth of the young university, noting its expanding academic offerings, infrastructural development, and increasing student population, crediting its success to the rapid efforts and quick interventions of His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah the Governor of Enugu State.
He disclosed that the institution was working towards admitting thousands of more students students by October and currently offered numerous programmes, including Pharmacology, Nanotechnology,dentistry,Prosthetics,Nanomedicine and so on.
The Vice-Chancellor also outlined some of the university's achievements, including the completion of its library building and an administrative block, alongside efforts to attract major development projects in solar power, artificial intelligence, and faculty infrastructure. He further noted that the university's first convocation ceremony was scheduled for December.
Prof. Ogbonna emphasized that water remains a critical necessity for the smooth running of the institution, especially with the increasing number of students and the expansion of academic and medical services.
He welcomed the CSDA intervention as a practical response to the needs of the university community.
In the same vein, the SUG President of SUMAS Rt Comr Cletus Ikeuwa eulogized the Governor of Enugu State for coming to the aide of the students through CSDA, he expressed joy and gratitude to the Enugu State Government, stressing the relief the water project has brought to the institution especially the male hostellers.
At SUMASTH and Mother and Child,management, Medical Staff and patients all poured encomiums on the Governor of Enugu State. For what he has done for them through the CSDA, they also described the GM of CSDA Hon Monday Diamond Ani as an outstanding leader who is proactive and responsive in his duties.
In his remarks, Hon. Monday Diamond Ani who was accompanied by the Member Representing Igbo-Eze Constituency II in the Enugu State House of Assembly Hon Clifford Obe, and other staff of CSDA,reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to addressing critical basic-service challenges through interventions that directly improve the welfare of beneficiaries. He stressed the importance of ensuring that projects respond to identified needs and are implemented in accordance with established CSDA procedures and guidelines.
Hon Monday Diamond affirmed them of the Governor Peter Mbah's continued support of CSDA towards intervening in cases like this.
The commissioning reflects the commitment of the Enugu State Government, through CSDA, to improving access to essential services and supporting institutions that contribute to education and healthcare delivery. It also reinforces the Agency's mandate to promote community-driven development and ensure that critical infrastructure reaches the people and institutions that need it most.
