The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, has joined the global community to celebrate the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, calling for greater investment in girls’ education, safety, empowerment and opportunities to realise their full potential.
In his goodwill message to mark the annual celebration on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Onoh reaffirmed the importance of creating an environment where every girl can thrive, pursue her dreams and contribute meaningfully to the development of society.
The Enugu North Council Chairman stressed that every girl possesses unique abilities and deserves the best opportunities in life, particularly access to quality education, a safe environment and the freedom to dream without limitations.
According to him, empowering girls is not only an investment in their individual futures but also a strategic investment in the progress and prosperity of families, communities and the wider society.
“Investing in our girls is investing in the future of our communities. They are our best gifts, and we must empower them to bring positive change to our world,” Onoh stated.
He emphasised that girls should be encouraged and supported to discover their talents, build confidence and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become responsible leaders, innovators and agents of positive change.
Onoh further expressed optimism about the future of girls in Enugu North and beyond, wishing them a life filled with hope, confidence, personal growth and endless opportunities to succeed.
He also called for sustained commitment to nurturing and supporting the girl child, noting that every girl deserves an opportunity to grow, fulfil her aspirations and make meaningful contributions to her community.
