The convoy of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, came under attack by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, shortly after the governor received his Certificate of Return at the Osun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to reports, Adeleke had proceeded to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, after the INEC ceremony. The attack reportedly occurred as the governor was leaving the palace.

A source said the gunmen arrived in an unregistered Toyota Sienna vehicle before opening fire on the governor’s convoy.

The attackers were reportedly repelled by security personnel attached to the governor. They were also said to have engaged the convoy in another gun battle near the Osogbo Central Mosque before fleeing towards Ita Olokan along the Osogbo-Ilesa Road.

The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the incident, stating that the governor’s security personnel successfully repelled the assailants.

He further disclosed that no casualties were recorded in the attack.

More details are expected as security agencies continue to investigate the incident.
