Princess Ada Ogbu, a senatorial aspirant for Enugu East Senatorial District, has felicitated with the people of Enugu State as the Coal City State marks its 35th anniversary of creation.
In a goodwill message marking the anniversary, Ada Ogbu celebrated the resilience, identity and remarkable journey of Enugu State since it was created on August 27, 1991, when it was carved out of the old Anambra State by the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
She described the anniversary as an important moment for residents, indigenes and friends of the state to reflect on Enugu’s journey, celebrate its rich heritage and renew their commitment to building a more prosperous future.
Enugu, popularly known as the Coal City State, has a rich history dating back to the discovery of coal at the Udi Hills in 1909. The discovery played a significant role in the emergence and development of Enugu as an important urban and administrative centre in southeastern Nigeria.
Over the past 35 years, the state has continued to evolve as a major hub for education, commerce, culture, tourism and public administration, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the South-East.
Ada Ogbu noted that the anniversary should go beyond celebration, urging renewed unity, collective responsibility and purposeful leadership to ensure that the progress recorded over the decades is sustained and expanded.
She congratulated the people of Enugu State, commending their resilience and enduring sense of identity while expressing optimism that the state can achieve even greater milestones in the years ahead.
As the state marks 35 years of its existence, she called on all stakeholders to remain committed to creating an Enugu where opportunities abound for young people, women, businesses and communities.
“Enugu’s 35-year journey is a story of resilience, identity, growth and hope. As we celebrate our heritage today, let us also look ahead with renewed determination to build an even stronger and more prosperous state for generations to come,” she said.
The anniversary, according to her, offers an opportunity to honour the past, appreciate the present and work collectively towards a brighter future for Enugu State.
Happy 35th Anniversary, Enugu State — the Coal City State!
