The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and Deputy Chairman of ALGON Enugu State, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, has recorded another national milestone as he emerged the Overall Best Performing Local Government Chairman in Nigeria at the 24th Rootswatch Distinguished Local Government Chairmen Merit Award, held on the 3rd of June, 2026, at the National Merit House, Abuja, receiving a Car Prize in recognition of his outstanding investment in Human Capital Development.
The award, which celebrates excellence, innovation and transformative leadership at the grassroots level, recognised Barr. Ukwueze's commitment to empowering people, expanding opportunities and building a future-ready generation of young Nigerians through deliberate and impactful interventions.
Representing the Chairman at the award ceremony was his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Hon. Isaac Chibueze Onoyima, who received the award and vehicle on behalf of the council boss.
Speaking shortly after the presentation, Hon. Onoyima said the recognition came as no surprise, noting that the evidence of Barr. Ukwueze's people-centred leadership is visible across every community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area.
According to him, the true justification for the award is not merely contained in citations and commendations but in the lives that have been transformed under the administration.
Over the past months, the administration of Barr. Ukwueze has distinguished itself through a deliberate focus on human capital development, youth empowerment, education and social inclusion. Through strategic programmes ranging from vocational training and business support initiatives to digital literacy, artificial intelligence training and educational assistance, the administration has consistently demonstrated that sustainable development begins with investing in people.

Hon. Onoyima further described the Chairman's achievements as a direct reflection of the broader governance philosophy championed by the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
According to him, Barr. Ukwueze has remained faithful to the Governor's vision of building a prosperous, productive and globally competitive Enugu State by translating state-level development aspirations into tangible grassroots realities.
