The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State chapter, has declared its readiness to take over the state’s political leadership following a wave of high-profile defections and increasing grassroots support.
In a statement issued in Enugu, the party leadership described the development as a major turning point in its quest to establish itself as a dominant political force ahead of upcoming elections.
The statement, signed by State Secretary Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor and Publicity Secretary Emmanuel Ugwueze, highlighted the defection of notable figures including former senator Gil Nnaji, Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa, Princess Adaogbu, and Chief John Nwokeabia. According to the party, these individuals bring significant political experience and grassroots influence that will strengthen its structure and electoral chances.
The NDC also noted the growing alignment of supporters from the Obidient Movement and loyalists of Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing it as evidence of shifting political dynamics within the state.
Reaffirming its vision, the party said it is building a platform rooted in accountability, transparency, and sustainable development, with focus areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment
It further called on residents of Enugu State, particularly youths, professionals, artisans, and women, to join its membership drive, emphasizing a collective effort to reposition the state for greater prosperity.
The NDC maintained that the “time for positive change is now,” expressing confidence in its capacity to lead a new era of inclusive governance in Enugu State.
