The Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor of Enugu State on Youth and Students Affairs has officially commenced its Campus Voter Registration and Sensitisation Tour, with the maiden edition successfully held at the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE).
The exercise, which took place on May 19, 2026, witnessed massive participation from students who trooped out in large numbers to register for their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), demonstrating growing political consciousness and readiness among young people to actively participate in the democratic process.
The atmosphere across the campus was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as students queued patiently to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the initiative. Many of them expressed delight over the seamless registration process facilitated through the collaboration between the Enugu State Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The sensitisation tour, championed by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Students Affairs, is aimed at deepening civic participation among students and ensuring that more young people are empowered to exercise their constitutional rights through voting.
Speaking during the exercise, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Students Affairs, Hon. Comr. Prisca Okeke, emphasized the importance of youth participation in governance, noting that democracy thrives best when young people are not only heard but actively involved in shaping leadership through the ballot.
She described the turnout at FUAHSE as encouraging and symbolic of a new generation of politically conscious youths determined to contribute meaningfully to the future of the state and the nation.
According to her, “Seeing young people take this important step towards civic participation reminds us why this tour matters. Democracy works best when the youth have a voice and a vote.”
The team was warmly received by the Dean of Student Affairs, Mrs. Ngozi Okafor, the Students’ Union Government President, Comr. Ugwuoti Marius Ikechukwu, the NANS Vice Chairman, Comr. Charity Udegbo, alongside other principal stakeholders of the institution, whose cooperation and support contributed greatly to the success of the exercise.
Hon. Prisca Okeke, in her vote of thanks, expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of FUAHSE, Prof. John Emaimo, for providing what she described as a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for both the state government delegation and INEC officials deployed for the registration exercise.
She commended the university management for its commitment to student welfare, civic engagement, and youth inclusion, stressing that such partnership remains vital in building responsible citizenship among young Nigerians.
“We are grateful for your leadership and partnership. Your commitment to student welfare and civic engagement gave us the enabling ground to effectively reach the students,” she stated.
The initiative further reflects the commitment of the administration of the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, towards promoting youth and student inclusion in governance and democratic processes across the state.
The office also appreciated INEC for collaborating with the Enugu State Government to bring voter registration closer to students within the campus environment, thereby making the process easier and more accessible.
Hon. Okeke urged students and young people across the state to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, reminding them that their votes remain one of the strongest tools for accountability, representation, and societal transformation.
“Your vote is your power. Registering is the first step to holding leaders accountable and choosing the future you want to see,” she added.
The Campus Voter Registration and Sensitisation Tour is expected to continue across tertiary institutions in Enugu State as part of broader efforts to mobilize and empower students ahead of future electoral processes.
