Teachers at Community Primary School, Umuora Obulechi, Oriuzor, in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have reportedly been suspended after a viral video exposed the poor condition of the school.

The teachers were allegedly sanctioned by the state government for allowing a content creator to film and publicise the dilapidated state of the school building.

The development has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians criticising the authorities for punishing teachers instead of addressing the deteriorating learning environment faced by pupils in the community.

Reports indicated that rather than taking immediate steps to renovate the school and improve facilities, the government moved against the teachers accused of permitting the video recording.

Meanwhile, an Ebonyi-born businessman, Chief Chibuike Orogwu, has pledged to construct a new school building and provide necessary facilities for the institution.

According to the report, construction work on the new school project has already commenced.

The incident has further reignited conversations about the state of public primary schools in parts of Nigeria and the urgent need for improved investment in the education sector.
