As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2026 Children’s Day, seasoned former lawmaker and House of Representatives hopeful for Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu PhD, has charged political leaders and citizens to build a nation founded on honesty, integrity, unity, and love for one another in order to secure a brighter future for Nigerian children.

In his Children’s Day message released on Tuesday, Rt. Hon. Ezeugwu emphasized that children remain the greatest hope and future of the nation, stressing that the values demonstrated by today’s leaders will determine the kind of society the younger generation will inherit.

According to him, “As we celebrate our children today, let us remember that the future they inherit depends on the values we demonstrate today. Our politicians and leaders must showcase honesty, integrity, unity, and love for one another.”

The former lawmaker, while reflecting on the theme of hope and national rebirth, maintained that “Example is better than precept,” noting that children learn more from the conduct and character of leaders than from mere speeches and promises.

Rt. Hon. Ezeugwu further declared that “A new Nigeria is possible,” urging Nigerians not to lose faith in the country despite prevailing social and economic challenges.

The NDC House of Representatives aspirant also stressed the importance of creating opportunities for young people through quality education, youth empowerment, and policies that promote peace, security, and development across communities.

Observers say the Children’s Day message by Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu PhD reflects his longstanding commitment to leadership rooted in service, responsibility, and people-oriented values. As a seasoned politician and former lawmaker with years of legislative experience, Ezeugwu’s remarks resonate strongly at a time many Nigerians are demanding purposeful leadership and renewed hope for the younger generation.

His message serves not only as a celebration of children but also as a reminder to leaders at all levels that the future of Nigeria depends largely on the examples being set today.
