...Procedure and outcome of some political party primaries very despicable.
*(...Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu PhD Condemns Electoral Conduct, Calls for Urgent Political Reforms Ahead of Legislative Aspiration...)*
A prominent Nigerian lawmaker, seasoned statesman, philanthropist, former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, and House of Representatives aspirant for Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency under the NDC, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu PhD, has raised serious concerns over the conduct of some political party primaries, describing them as “very despicable” and unbecoming of a democratic system.
He made the remarks in a strongly worded statement where he called for value reorientation, accountability, and urgent reforms in Nigeria’s political space.
"Nigerians are watching. The electorate is watching. The CSOs are watching. The international community is watching. Above all, God is watching and taking notes. How and when did we condescend this low? No shame. No fear of what the judgment will be. Not bothered that the youths will see certain videos, see some pictures, and read some genuine comments. What a hell. What are we teaching our children and generations yet unborn? I wonder what some people tell their immediate families when they are confronted with their public outings. How do they explain certain actions?
I was brought up in an environment where family values matter. Growing up, every child knows the consequences of bringing the family name into opprobrium. Hence, I was warned during the last enlarged family meeting when I was given a nod to go into partisan politics in 2011: ‘We wish you the best. May God continue to abide with you. Please, remember the family you come from. Should you drag the family name into shame, we shall disown you.’ I promised them that anything in politics that will make me have a dual personality, I WOULD QUIT.
I think the time has come for CSOs to call certain individuals out. People should not, in the name of playing politics, destroy our youths. What message are we passing to the younger ones? Please, if we cannot change the polity, let us leave it as we found it. The display and celebration of dishonesty, deceit, the ‘money is everything’ mentality, hooliganism, and cultism MUST STOP.
Let us remember that it has been established that the sins of the father are usually, unfortunately, visited upon the children up to the third generation. The question then becomes: why do some people wish their children evil? What goes around comes around. May justice, truth, peace, and love for one another prevail.”
