The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Oyo State has called for a statewide day of prayer and fasting following the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. Churches across the state have been directed to hold special spiritual programs on Wednesday as residents continue to grapple with fear over the attacks.

The move comes after armed men invaded three schools on Friday, abducting dozens of pupils, teachers, and a school principal, leaving families and community leaders in distress. CAN leaders said the prayer sessions aim to seek divine intervention while authorities work to secure the safe return of the victims.

The association also urged residents to remain calm, support security operations, and avoid spreading unverified information. In addition, CAN appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect schools and prevent further attacks on children and educators, as concerns about insecurity in rural communities persist.
