In a bold and strategic move to uplift education and empower the youth, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and Deputy Chairman of ALGON, Enugu State, Hon. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, has unveiled a multidimensional empowerment initiative poised to impact over 2,000 beneficiaries across the 16 wards of the local government.
The ambitious programme, set to be formally launched on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by 11:00 a.m. at the LG Secretariat, Ibagwa-Aka, reflects the Chairman’s commitment to human capital development in alignment with Governor Peter Mbah’s tech-driven vision for Enugu State.
The package includes a fully funded 2025 Bursary and Scholarship Scheme, the Emerging Tech Skills for Africa Programme, and a specialised Agro-Empowerment Training Initiative in partnership with Mary Agro Farms, Udi.
Speaking through the Supervisory Councilor for Education and Social Services, Hon. Asanya Paul, Hon. Ukwueze announced that bursary registration is currently open for eligible students from the area. He stressed that the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on families and encouraging students to pursue academic excellence.
In the same vein, the Emerging Tech Skills for Africa Programme, powered by Skilloline and supported by international partners, will offer hands-on training in cutting-edge fields including Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Product Design, Cloud Computing, and more. All training costs will be fully covered by the council, and successful participants will receive globally recognised diplomas.
Additionally, students who had earlier applied for the JAMB intervention are invited to attend the event for verification and immediate reimbursement. The same day will also mark the screening and selection of the first cohort of trainees for the Mario Institute of Vocational and Skill Acquisition Training.
To further strengthen the council's agricultural focus, Hon. Ukwueze has approved the sponsorship of five young candidates to enroll in the 2025 training session at Mary Agro Farms, Udi. This six-month intensive programme will include full sponsorship of feeding, accommodation, registration fees, and culminate in a ₦500,000 post-training empowerment grant for each participant to kickstart their agribusiness journey.
“This initiative is about building a future where our youths are skilled, educated, and economically empowered,” Hon. Ukwueze said, urging interested and eligible individuals to seize the opportunity while slots are still open.
