'I’m Ready to Sacrifice My Own Life and Blood to Secure Uzo-Uwani' - Enugu Mayor, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu Vows to Tackle Insecurity

The Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Barr. Chijioke Joseph Ezugwu, has vowed to lay down his life and spill his blood, if necessary, to secure the peace and safety of his people.

The chairman made this solemn vow during a high-level meeting with a delegation from the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, ably led by the Commission’s Chairman, Barr. Nana Ogbodo, at the council headquarters, Umulokpa, yesterday.

Ezugwu, known for his passion for grassroots leadership and hands-on approach to matters, reaffirmed that security remains the cornerstone of his administration, stating that without peace, no meaningful development can take root.

“I am ready to sacrifice my own life and blood to secure Uzo-Uwani. The safety of our people is not just a responsibility. It is a duty I’ve sworn to uphold, no matter the cost,” he said.

Prior to the mayor’s address, Barr. Nana Ogbodo praised Ezugwu’s courageous leadership and the calm atmosphere he encountered during his visit, which sharply contrasted the worrisome security reports that once defined Uzo-Uwani.

“Before coming, I got reports from staff suggesting that if it were another mayor, we might not have been able to visit this council due to the wave of insecurity in the area,” Nana stated. “But stepping into Uzo-Uwani today, I can confirm firsthand that this place is firmly under control. Credit must be given to the leadership of Barr. CJ Ezugwu.”

Aside from security, Barr. Ezugwu used the opportunity to reemphasize his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of local government workers, noting that it remains a key priority and a direct reflection of the promises he made during his campaign.

“My job is always to put forth efforts to make sure that workers’ welfare is covered. It’s not just a policy, it is a personal drive. Every staff member deserves to feel valued, supported, and protected,” he said.

This renewed assurance struck a chord of a brighter future for both the workforce and residents of Uzo-Uwani. With a leader willing to risk everything to ensure safety and uphold the dignity of labor, the local government is undoubtedly on the path of restoration, resilience, and responsible governance.

Barr. Ezugwu’s words are more than political statements. They are a reflection of deep conviction, a passion for service, and a leadership style that puts people first.
