Governor Mourns the Death of Former FCT Minister, Jeremiah Useni

 



The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has confirmed the death of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni. The elder statesman passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness.

In a heartfelt statement released in Jos, Governor Mutfwang described the death of General Useni as a monumental loss, not only to his immediate family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the entire nation. The Governor paid tribute to the late General’s remarkable life and legacy, particularly his tireless commitment to national service and his leadership across various sectors.

"General Useni's death is a tremendous loss to Nigeria. His contributions to the Nigerian Armed Forces, his exemplary leadership, and his deep dedication to peace and security will forever be etched in the hearts of the people," Governor Mutfwang said.

Governor Mutfwang also reflected on General Useni's role in shaping Nigeria’s political and security landscape. He emphasized that the late General’s tireless efforts to promote peace, especially in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, would be remembered for generations. "General Useni’s passion for security and development in Plateau State and Northern Nigeria left an indelible mark that cannot be forgotten," he stated.

In addition to his military career, Governor Mutfwang highlighted General Useni's political accomplishments. Useni served the nation in several capacities, including as the Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT, where he contributed significantly to the country’s growth.

Governor Mutfwang extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all those who were privileged to work alongside General Useni. He prayed for God to grant the family, the state, and the nation the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss and to comfort all who mourn his passing.
