The council chairman of Nkanu East local government, Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh on 12th January, 2025 distributed over 5000 items for his people at Obeagu, Ugbwaka. This, according to the Council boss is to compliment efforts of the Enugu State state government led by Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in bringing succour to the people in the wake of rising cost of food items in the country.
The Council Boss commenced with the distribution of grants to students and youths as to assist parents and reduce the financial burden on them as schools reopen.
While addressing the mammoth crowd, the Council Chief said, it would foster unity in the community.
He expressed the importance of complementing government efforts at the state level to bring succour to the people; Hence, the reason for the gesture.
“It is important for us at the local government level to complement the efforts of government at state level to bring succour to our people and that’s the reason we have decided to put in place various measures to cushion the effect of this challenging period which no doubt will foster unity among the people, we will continue the good works and show commitment in order to touch more lives of our people,” he stated
He further called for contributions from good-spirited individuals and philanthropists to help meet the needs of the people, as the government cannot do it alone.
It would be recalled that Hon. Edeh's administration had earlier distributed several food items to the stakeholders and others across communities in Nkanu East during the Christmas celebration.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the Chairman whom they said has been doing this over the years even before he became chairman.
According to them, The people are happy with him especially in his efforts to better the lives of the less privileged. This food items we have received would go a long way in sustaining our families this January and beyond.
The items distributed include rice, beans, spaghetti, noodles , vegetable oil, clothes, among other items.
The chairman was accompanied by the deputy chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon Paul Okwor, former Secretary to Nkanu East Hon Nnaemeka Nnamene, Hon Azubuike Okoh among many other dignitaries.
