The Enugu State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 appropriation bill, allocating N971.84 billion, following a report presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Anthony Nwankwo, representing the PDP from Awgu South.
Nwankwo explained that his committee had engaged various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies during the budget defense, ultimately recommending the approval of the bill as presented by the executive. He emphasized that the passage of the budget would foster good governance and improve infrastructure in the state.
The Minority Leader of the Assembly, Chief Iloabuchi Aniagu, contributed by stating that the budget, tagged "Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity," marked a significant milestone, as it was double the 2024 budget of N571 billion. He expressed confidence that the passage of the budget would lead to meaningful development, urging his colleagues to support it for the benefit of the people.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Uche Ugwu, praised the legislators for their prompt passage of the bill. He emphasized that the responsibility now lies with the executive, urging his colleagues to undertake vigorous oversight to ensure the proper execution of projects by contractors.
With the passing of the appropriation bill, the framework is now in place for the Enugu State government to move forward with its development plans for 2025.
