The Nsukka Local Government Area's Community Development Programme team, led by Dr. Aaron Adibe Agbo, visited Ehalumona, Ede Oballa, and Opi Nsukka yesterday in an ongoing grassroots development initiative. The visit marks the beginning of a series of engagements aimed at gathering input from rural communities on their most pressing developmental needs.
Launched under the directive of the Executive Chairman of Nsukka LGA, Engr. Jude Asogwa Chinedu-KSJI, the initiative is designed to foster participatory governance by directly involving community leaders and stakeholders in determining the projects the Local Government will prioritize. The Chairman's goal is to ensure that development reaches the grassroots, replicating the governance style of His Excellency, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who has committed to localized development across the 260 electoral wards in Enugu State.
The tour kicked off on October 14, 2024, with warm receptions in all three communities. In separate visits, Dr. Agbo described the mission as a “fact-finding” exercise to collect valuable input from the people. He emphasized that the involvement of rural dwellers in project selection ensures the delivery of governance dividends that directly impact their lives.
Community leaders in Ehalumona, Ede Oballa, and Opi Nsukka expressed their appreciation for the Chairman's inclusive approach. Each community presented their prioritized projects, which included requests for inter-community road rehabilitation, completion of civic centers, borehole construction, rural electrification, improved healthcare facilities, deployment of health workers, renovation of school buildings, installation of solar-powered streetlights, and the establishment of skills acquisition centers.
The development team has promised to submit a comprehensive report on the needs of the various communities at the conclusion of the tour, further solidifying Engr. Asogwa's dedication to sustainable development.
This innovative initiative underscores the Council's commitment to addressing specific community needs and ensuring growth at the grassroots level.
