...Obi pledges financial support to late Nworie’s mother as Ada Ogbu condemns political violence

Princess Ada Ogbu Nara Unateze, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Enugu East, has joined former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to commiserate with the family of late Ifeanyi Nworie in Affa, Enugu State, while calling for justice over his tragic death, reportedly linked to political violence.

The visit brought the two political figures to the bereaved family as they expressed their condolences over the loss of a young life, with Ogbu stressing that political ambition must never take precedence over human life and the safety of citizens.

In her statement following the visit, Ogbu described Nworie’s death as a painful reminder of the dangers of political intolerance, insisting that politics should be about serving the people rather than exposing them to violence.

For the Enugu East senatorial hopeful, the tragedy underscores the urgent need for a political culture where differences in opinion and party affiliation do not lead to bloodshed.

“No ambition is worth a human life, and no mother should have to bury her child over political differences,” she said, expressing sympathy with the family and urging that justice be pursued over the circumstances surrounding Nworie’s death.

During the condolence visit, Obi reportedly pledged to personally provide Nworie’s mother with financial support equivalent to what her late son had been giving her. The gesture, according to Ogbu’s statement, was intended to offer practical assistance and solidarity to a mother grappling with the loss of her son.

Ogbu also extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength and comfort for them during the difficult period.

The incident has again drawn attention to concerns about political violence and the devastating consequences it can have on families and communities. The call for justice reflects the need for a thorough investigation and appropriate accountability over the circumstances of Nworie’s death.

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, Ogbu’s message serves as an appeal for restraint, tolerance and respect for human life across political divides.

She maintained that no political contest should cost a family the life of a loved one, urging that the pursuit of justice remain central to the response to the tragedy.

“May Ifeanyi’s soul rest in peace,” she said.
