Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for introducing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying the initiative is creating greater opportunities for Nigerian students to access and finance tertiary education.
Yusuf spoke at the 2nd and 3rd Combined Convocation Ceremony of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State, where 1,101 students graduated from various academic programmes.
The governor said NELFUND was helping to reduce financial barriers confronting students and their parents in financing higher education.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s support for the education sector, particularly through the introduction of NELFUND.
According to him, the initiative provides students and parents with greater opportunities to finance education across Nigerian tertiary institutions and represents a significant step towards expanding access to higher education.
Yusuf urged the graduating students to put the knowledge and skills acquired during their academic journey to productive use and contribute meaningfully to their communities, Kano State and Nigeria.
He also stressed the importance of investment in education, noting that a well-educated and skilled population was essential for sustainable development, economic growth and social progress.
The governor encouraged the graduands to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship and lifelong learning while upholding discipline, integrity and the values acquired during their studies.
The convocation also featured the conferment of honorary degrees on Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil and Alhaji Abdulmumini Mai Shanu, while a posthumous doctorate degree was conferred on the late Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata in recognition of his contributions.
