...SSA to the President on Students Engagement, Comrade Sunday Asefon, Leads Mobilisation Drive, Urges Students to Embrace Active Citizenship, Responsible
Cross River students have been urged to embrace responsible leadership, active citizenship and meaningful participation in the democratic process as the City Boy Movement commenced its campus-to-campus mobilisation across the state.
The campaign, which also featured the inauguration of City Boy Movement Campus Ambassadors, is being led by the National Director, Students Engagement of the movement and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Comrade Sunday Asefon.
Asefon, in a statement following the commencement of the exercise, expressed appreciation to Cross River State and the state's student community for the warm reception accorded the team.
He said the engagement provided an opportunity to share what he described as the Renewed Hope message with students while encouraging them to become more involved in leadership, citizenship and democratic participation.
According to him, the mobilisation drive is also aimed at expanding the membership of the City Boy Movement across campuses, with newly inaugurated Campus Ambassadors expected to reach out to more students and encourage them to participate actively in the democratic process.
Asefon said particular attention would be given to students who are registered voters and possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing the importance of informed and responsible participation in civic affairs.
As part of the campaign, the team visited the newly commissioned Renewed Hope Initiative ICT Experience Centre at the University of Cross River State. Asefon described the centre as one of the developments on campuses which, according to him, demonstrate the impact of initiatives associated with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
He said the visit was intended to enable students to see and engage with some of the opportunities and infrastructure available within the university environment.
Asefon outlined the message of the City Boy Movement around three key pillars: Inform, Engage and Empower.
He explained that the movement's Campus Ambassadors are expected to inform students in their classes, departments and faculties about government projects and initiatives; engage them on responsible leadership, active citizenship and participation; and empower young people by connecting them with opportunities and networks that promote inclusive participation.
He further encouraged students to take an active interest in developments within their institutions and communities while contributing positively to the democratic process.
“Together, we will continue to Inform, Engage and Empower,” Asefon said, expressing confidence in the continued expansion of the movement across campuses.
He described the Cross River campaign as the beginning of a broader mobilisation effort, declaring: “City Boy Movement, Cross River State, we are just getting started.”
