Agbani, Enugu State In a major boost to food security and rural development, *Rt. Hon. Pharm. Nnolim Nnaji*, Member Representing *Nkanu East and West Federal Constituency* at the Green Chamber, has concluded a large-scale training program for over *2,000 rural farmers* in modern agricultural practices, climate-smart farming, and post-harvest handling.
The capacity-building initiative, held in Nkanu West, brought together men, women and youths from across the two local government areas for intensive training aimed at improving productivity, reducing crop losses, and equipping farmers with skills to withstand climate change challenges.
The event drew top government officials, traditional rulers, clergy, and agricultural experts.

The *Nkanu Obodo Oma Media Team* was also in attendance and expressed appreciation for the lawmaker’s commitment to grassroots development. The team thanked Rt. Hon. Nnaji for the opportunity and urged other political office holders to emulate such impactful initiatives.
*HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRAINING*
Participants were trained extensively in three core areas:
1. *Modern Agricultural Practices* – including improved planting techniques, soil management, and use of technology in farming
2. *Climate-Smart Farming Practices* – strategies for adapting to weather variability, water conservation, and sustainable land use
3. *Post-Harvest Handling and Maintenance* – proper storage, processing, and value addition to reduce waste and increase income
Resource persons and directors from the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu led practical sessions and field demonstrations to ensure farmers could immediately apply the knowledge.
Speaking on behalf of Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, *Hon. Sylvester Okechukwu Okoro* assured the participants that the training was part of a broader empowerment agenda. He revealed that a total of *2,540 men, women and youths* have so far been empowered across Nkanu East and West in alignment with the agricultural policies of *President Bola Ahmed Tinubu* and the *Enugu State Government*.
*Hon. John Ogbodo*, Executive Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, commended Rt. Hon. Nnaji for his consistent representation. He described the federal lawmaker as _“the Best House Member in Enugu State”_ due to his people-centered projects and direct impact on constituents.
The clergy and agricultural experts present also lauded the program, noting that empowering farmers with modern skills is critical to tackling hunger, poverty, and youth unemployment in rural communities.
Beneficiaries expressed joy and gratitude, saying the training has opened their eyes to new farming methods that will increase yield and income. Many pledged to step down the knowledge to other farmers in their communities.
