ENUGU - The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Hon. Chinedu Nelson Maduegbunam, has pledged to make the agitation for the creation of Adada State a major legislative priority if elected.
Maduegbunam, in a statement issued on the need to sustain the long-standing demand for the creation of the proposed state, said he would use his position in the National Assembly to advance the aspirations of the people of Enugu North Senatorial District.
According to him, his legislative agenda would include tracking the progress of motions and initiatives previously sponsored by lawmakers on the Adada State project, while also sustaining constructive engagement and pressure on the leadership of the House of Representatives towards achieving the long-standing demand.
The ADC candidate commended the contributions of former Senator Chuka Utazi, the late Senator Okey Ezea, popularly known as Ideke, as well as serving members of the House of Representatives from the district for their efforts towards the actualisation of Adada State.
He, however, argued that what has been missing in the agitation is a stronger infusion of youthful energy, which he said he intends to bring to the campaign for the creation of the state.
Maduegbunam said the contributions of past and present lawmakers should be acknowledged, stressing that his candidacy represents an opportunity to inject renewed vigour and youthful determination into the struggle.
“The previous lawmakers, such as Senator Utazi and the late Okey Ezea, popularly known as Ideke, have done quite well in this regard.
“The present members of the House of Representatives, including Hon. Mark Obeta, Hon. Dennis Agbo, Hon. Dr. Martins Oke and others, have also done their best in this regard. But their push needs youthfulness, and that is why I am here,” he said.
Maduegbunam further assured constituents that, if given the mandate in 2027, he would pursue the Adada State agenda with renewed commitment, while working within the constitutional and legislative processes required for the creation of new states.
