Enugu State is taking another major step towards building a technology-driven economy as the state government advances plans to establish an Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Digital Fabrication Centre in the state.
The initiative, being pursued under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is designed to strengthen technical skills, promote innovation and equip young people with the capabilities required to compete in the rapidly evolving global economy.
The proposed centre is the outcome of strategic engagements between the Enugu State Government and the Director-General/Chief Executive of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, with the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency playing a key role in facilitating the partnership and supporting its implementation.
The Digital Fabrication Centre is expected to serve as a hub for practical, technology-focused training, providing young people, artisans, entrepreneurs and other participants with access to emerging skills and modern production techniques.
Among the areas of training and innovation envisaged are digital fabrication, robotics and automation, computer-aided design (CAD), prototyping and product development, advanced technical and vocational skills, entrepreneurship and local manufacturing.
The initiative is expected to help bridge the gap between education, technical skills and industry by creating opportunities for beneficiaries to acquire practical knowledge that can translate into employment, entrepreneurship and the development of locally made products.
For Enugu State, the proposed centre also represents another component of the administration's broader drive to build an ecosystem where technology, innovation, enterprise development and skills acquisition can serve as engines of economic growth.
By partnering with institutions such as the ITF, the state is positioning itself to expand access to modern technical training while creating a stronger pipeline of skilled manpower for emerging industries.
