The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Enugu State Branch, has lauded the transformative healthcare reforms being championed by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, describing the administration's ongoing Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) initiative as one of the most ambitious and far-reaching healthcare infrastructure projects in Nigeria.
The commendation came during the Supportive Supervisory Visit to the newly commissioned Type-2 Primary Health Centre at Ihe, Nsukka Local Government Area, led by Governor Mbah as part of efforts to assess the implementation and operational readiness of the state's landmark primary healthcare programme.
Representing the Association, the State Chairman, Rtn. Dr. Sunday Okafor, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the leadership and members of the NMA in Enugu State, applauding the Governor's bold vision and unwavering commitment to repositioning the health sector through strategic and sustainable investments.
The Association noted that the ongoing construction and operationalisation of 260 modern Type-2 Primary Health Centres across the 260 political wards of Enugu State represents a historic investment that will significantly strengthen primary healthcare delivery, improve access to quality medical services, reduce maternal and child mortality, enhance disease prevention, and accelerate the attainment of Universal Health Coverage for residents of the state.
According to the NMA, Governor Mbah's healthcare revolution demonstrates exceptional political will and a clear determination to build a resilient health system through investments in modern healthcare infrastructure, human resource development, digital health innovation, emergency medical services, as well as the revitalisation of secondary, tertiary and quaternary healthcare institutions across Enugu State.
The Association also congratulated the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ENSPHCDA) under the leadership of its Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ifenyinwa Ani-Osheku, for what it described as exemplary leadership, dedication and effective coordination in driving the successful implementation of the landmark healthcare initiative.
Reaffirming its commitment to the state's health sector reforms, the NMA pledged to continue working closely with the Enugu State Government and other critical stakeholders to ensure that the newly established world-class primary healthcare facilities deliver accessible, affordable, efficient and patient-centred healthcare services to every resident of Enugu State.
The Association further congratulated Governor Mbah, the Government and people of Enugu State on what it described as a remarkable milestone in the state's healthcare journey, while praying for God's continued wisdom, strength and grace upon the Governor and his team as they sustain the ongoing transformation of the health sector.
The statement, signed by the Publicity Secretary of NMA Enugu State, Dr. Ikemefuna Nnamani, concluded with an optimistic message celebrating the progress made so far, declaring that the future of healthcare in Enugu State is already being built through the administration's visionary investments in primary healthcare.
