As Nigeria marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, has extended warm greetings to the people of the local government while calling for renewed commitment to the values that sustain democratic governance.
In his Democracy Day message, Mayor Ukwueze described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the enduring principles of freedom, justice, participation, accountability and collective responsibility, noting that democracy remains the foundation upon which sustainable development and inclusive governance are built.
The Chairman commended the resilience and support of the people of Igbo-Eze South, emphasising that the achievements recorded by his administration have been made possible through the trust, cooperation and partnership that exist between the government and the citizens.
He further noted that democracy goes beyond the conduct of elections, stressing that responsible leadership, active citizenship, peaceful coexistence and a shared commitment to the common good are essential ingredients for societal progress. He particularly encouraged young people to remain law-abiding, embrace civic responsibility and continue contributing positively to community development.
Mayor Ukwueze also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to all parts of the local government. He observed that the developmental strides being witnessed across Igbo-Eze South are in line with the transformative vision of the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose leadership continues to drive innovation, economic growth and improved service delivery across the state.
While wishing the people a happy Democracy Day celebration, the Chairman expressed confidence that through unity, peaceful coexistence and collective determination, Igbo-Eze South would continue to record greater progress and remain on the path of sustainable development.
