UMUALOR’S TURN: WHY GOVERNOR PETER MBAH CAN MAKE HISTORY IN ISI-UZO

Crystal Palace Estate

1. Since assuming office, Governor Peter Mbah has distinguished himself as a leader willing to confront difficult challenges with courage, speed, and vision. Across Enugu State, his administration has redefined governance through visible infrastructure, institutional reforms, and an ambitious development philosophy that has inspired confidence among citizens. In Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, the impact of this leadership is impossible to ignore.

2. For decades, Isi-Uzo was treated as a peripheral part of Enugu State, largely ignored when major developmental decisions were made. Today, that narrative is changing under Governor Mbah’s leadership. The establishment of eleven Smart Schools across the eleven wards, the construction of eleven Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, the ongoing road infrastructure projects, and the proposed Ikem Nkwo Produce City have restored hope to communities that once felt forgotten.

3. These achievements have earned the Governor widespread goodwill across Isi-Uzo. They have also strengthened the belief that his administration is genuinely committed to ensuring that no part of Enugu State remains abandoned. It is on the strength of that confidence that many people now believe he can also address another longstanding issue that has quietly lingered in Isi-Uzo for decades.

4. That issue is the prolonged political exclusion of Umualor in the leadership structure of Isi-Uzo, particularly in the office of Local Government Chairman. Since the creation of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Umualor has never produced an elected Local Government Chairman. For many sons and daughters of the community, this remains one of the deepest symbols of political marginalization in the history of the local government.

5. While other communities within Isi-Uzo have had repeated opportunities to occupy strategic political offices and shape the leadership direction of the local government, Umualor has continued to wait patiently. Through changing administrations, shifting alliances, and multiple election cycles, the community has remained loyal and peaceful, yet its aspiration to produce an elected Local Government Chairman has remained unrealized.

6. This is not a complaint rooted in bitterness, nor is it an attempt to diminish the contributions of other communities. Rather, it is a sincere appeal for fairness and equitable representation. A political arrangement that continually excludes one community from such a critical office can create feelings of alienation that no progressive government should allow to persist.

7. Governor Peter Mbah has consistently projected fairness, balance, and justice in leadership decisions across Enugu State. Supporting Umualor to finally produce an elected Local Government Chairman would align perfectly with those values and further cement his reputation as a leader who listens to the overlooked.

8. Beyond the issue of equity, there is also a compelling strategic argument for this shift. Many young people in Isi-Uzo are increasingly demanding a new political culture that rewards competence, inclusion, and fresh ideas rather than recycling old political arrangements that have dominated the system for decades.

9. The future of politics is rapidly changing. Younger voters now form the majority of the electorate, and communities are becoming more conscious of fairness in political representation. Ignoring these realities may create avoidable tensions and weaken long-term political stability.

10. By supporting Umualor’s aspiration, Governor Peter Mbah would not simply be making a political decision, he would be correcting a historical imbalance and giving thousands of people renewed faith in the justice of the political system.

11. Great leaders are remembered not only for the roads they build or the institutions they create, but also for the injustices they correct. This presents Governor Mbah with a rare opportunity to write his name in the political history of Isi-Uzo as the leader who finally ensured that Umualor was no longer left behind.

12. The physical transformation of Isi-Uzo is already underway. The political inclusion of Umualor may well be the final piece needed to complete that transformation. As future leadership decisions approach, many people respectfully hope that Governor Peter Mbah will support Umualor’s long-awaited aspiration to produce its first elected Local Government Chairman and, in doing so, deepen unity, justice, and fairness in Isi-Uzo.
