Massive jubilation erupted across Nsukka Local Government Area on Friday as the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, officially restored the executives of seven major markets earlier dissolved by the council authorities.

The restoration exercise is being implemented through the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Market Affairs, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, who conducted the official enforcement of the governor’s directive across the affected markets.

The major market executives fully restored include Ikpa Market, Ogige Market, Mechanic Village Market, Aku Road Market, Building Materials Market, Timber Shade Market, and Afor Opi Market, all of which are considered critical commercial hubs within Nsukka and its surrounding communities.

The development follows Governor Mbah’s recent directive ordering the immediate reinstatement of the dissolved market executives after months of tension, protests, and appeals from traders and stakeholders who had expressed concerns over the administrative vacuum created by the dissolution.

The implementation process reportedly began at Ikpa Market before extending to other strategic markets across the council area, with traders trooping out in excitement to welcome the decision widely described as a major victory for justice, peace, and responsive governance.

Sources monitoring the exercise disclosed that the governor’s directive is being executed in strict compliance with government instructions aimed at restoring administrative stability, market coordination, and peaceful coexistence among traders and market unions.

The restoration has particularly generated celebrations at the ever-busy Ogige Market, Aku Road Market, Nsukka Building Materials Market, Timber Shade Market, Mechanic Village Market, and Afor Opi Market, where traders applauded the governor for listening to the cries of the people.

Speaking during the implementation exercise, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah reaffirmed that the directive of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah would be fully implemented across all affected markets without compromise, stressing that the administration remains committed to fairness, justice, grassroots development, and sustainable peace.

According to him, Governor Mbah’s swift intervention further demonstrates that the present administration is people-oriented and responsive to public concerns whenever peace and stability are threatened.

He commended the governor for what he described as courageous and compassionate leadership, noting that the restoration of the executives would rebuild confidence among traders and strengthen market administration across Nsukka Local Government Area.

Dr. Mbah further recalled Governor Mbah’s earlier landmark policy abolishing daily revenue collection from petty traders without lockup shops, describing it as one of the administration’s revolutionary interventions aimed at reducing hardship and protecting vulnerable traders from exploitation.

Traders and stakeholders across the markets have continued to celebrate the development, describing the governor’s action as timely, bold, and capable of restoring unity, coordination, and smooth commercial activities within the affected markets.

Many of the traders expressed optimism that the reinstated executives would immediately resume responsibilities and work closely with government authorities to sustain peace, accountability, and economic growth across Nsukka’s business environment.

The restoration exercise is expected to continue seamlessly across all affected markets as the state government intensifies efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and rebuild confidence within local commercial institutions.
