Enugu Shuts Down for Monthly Sanitation Tomorrow as Residents Urged to Keep State Clean

The Enugu State Government has reminded residents across the state to actively participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled to hold tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.

According to a public service announcement issued by the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. during the sanitation exercise, except for individuals on essential duties who are expected to present valid means of identification or official ESWAMA passes.

The agency stressed that the Environmental Court would be on duty throughout the exercise, warning that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. Residents were also advised to suspend early morning sporting activities, loading and off-loading of passengers in motor parks, as well as other commercial activities during the sanitation period.

ESWAMA urged Ndi Enugu to take ownership of the exercise by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainage channels, and disposing waste properly in order to sustain the state’s reputation as one of the cleanest states in Nigeria.

The Authority further reminded residents that payment of 2026 sanitation rates for both commercial and private residences remains ongoing, encouraging the public to make payments through designated commercial banks or at the ESWAMA office located at No. 7 Ridgeway Road, GRA, Enugu.

Managing Director of ESWAMA, Richard Onaga, reiterated the agency’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and appealed for total compliance and cooperation from residents across the state.

“A cleaner tomorrow starts today,” the agency emphasized while calling on citizens to fully support the exercise for the overall good of the state.
