The All Progressives Congress (APC) has produced its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with House of Representatives member, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, emerging victorious in the party’s primary election.

Chinda was declared winner by the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee after securing a total of 268,497 votes across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The announcement was made on Thursday evening at the APC state secretariat in Port Harcourt following the collation of results from ward-level delegates.

Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, who announced the outcome, described the exercise as peaceful and well-organised, commending party members for their conduct throughout the process.

He stated that the process reflected strong internal participation across the state and reaffirmed confidence in the party’s electoral readiness ahead of 2027.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Rivers State, where key figures have been repositioning within the political landscape. Reports also indicate that Governor Siminalayi Fubara and several other aspirants had earlier stepped down from the race, clearing the field for a more consolidated contest.

With Chinda’s emergence, political observers say Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is further strengthening his influence within the state’s APC structure ahead of the general elections.

The APC is expected to officially present its flagbearer in the coming days as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.
