..According to the statement, the appointment aligns with the provisions of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adedayo Laniyi as the new Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development for a four-year term.

The appointment, which took effect from April 18, 2026, was confirmed in an official statement issued by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. The statement was signed through the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.

In addition to Laniyi’s appointment, President Tinubu also approved the composition of the Governing Council of the Centre. Princess Joan Jummai Idonije was named Chairman of the Council, alongside members including Lois Auta, Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

The President congratulated the newly appointed Director-General and council members, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver on their mandates and strengthen the institution’s impact.

The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development is a key national institution established to promote women empowerment, gender equality, and the socio-economic advancement of women across Nigeria. The Centre also plays a critical role in research, training, and advocacy on issues affecting women and national development.
