A MANUFACTURED FALLACY: DEBUNKING THE DETRACTORS OF GOV. PETER MBAH’S TRANSFORMATIVE GOVERNANCE

In the realm of public discourse, especially within politically charged environments, it is not uncommon for progress to be met with resistance, sometimes constructive, but often driven by distortion and selective narratives. The write-up titled “The Exposed Failure: GTC Enugu and the Collapsing Facade of Peter Mbah’s Smart Green Schools” falls squarely into the later category. It is, quite frankly, a fallacy, an exaggerated and misleading account carefully curated by detractors uncomfortable with the pace and scale of transformation under the leadership of Gov Peter Mbah.

To begin with, the sweeping generalizations and alarmist tone of the piece betray its underlying intent: to discredit rather than to objectively assess. While no large-scale infrastructure project is entirely immune to minor defects or teething challenges, it is intellectually dishonest to amplify isolated incidents, often unverified or taken out of context, and present them as systemic failure.

The reality on the ground, particularly at Government Technical College (GTC) Enugu, tells a different story. The institution has undergone a remarkable transformation. What once stood as ageing and inadequate infrastructure has been replaced with modern, purpose-built facilities designed to meet contemporary standards in technical and vocational education. The new environment is not only conducive for learning but also equipped with highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art tools and machinery, many of which integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. These are not cosmetic upgrades; they represent a deliberate investment in the future of young people, positioning them competitively in a rapidly evolving global economy.

It is, therefore, misleading to suggest that such a comprehensive upgrade amounts to failure simply because of circulating videos whose authenticity, timing, and context remain questionable. In today’s digital age, visuals can be manipulated, misrepresented, or stripped of context to serve predetermined narratives. Responsible analysis demands verification, not viral amplification.

Furthermore, the attempt to generalize alleged issues across multiple Smart Green School locations without credible, independently verified data reflects a pattern of speculative criticism rather than evidence-based evaluation. Large infrastructure programmes, especially those executed simultaneously across numerous sites, often involve phased completion, ongoing improvements, and maintenance cycles. Interpreting these natural processes as structural collapse is, at best, a misunderstanding and, at worst, a deliberate misrepresentation.

More concerning, however, is the underlying political culture this type of write-up promotes. The persistent inclination toward “pull-him-down” politics does not serve the people of Enugu State. It stifles honest dialogue, discourages innovation, and creates an environment where progress is constantly undermined by cynicism. Governance should not be reduced to a battleground where every initiative is automatically politicized and attacked, regardless of its merit.

Constructive criticism is essential in a democracy, but it must be grounded in truth, fairness, and a genuine desire for improvement. What we see in this instance is not constructive engagement but an attempt to weaponize public perception against a government that is clearly pursuing an ambitious developmental agenda.

Enugu State deserves a more mature conversation, one that acknowledges progress where it exists, interrogates challenges responsibly, and avoids the temptation to sensationalize for political gain. The Smart Green Schools initiative, including the transformation of GTC Enugu, is a bold step toward redefining education in the state. It should be assessed with objectivity, not undermined by narratives built on shaky foundations.

In the end, the true measure of governance lies not in the noise of detractors but in the tangible impact on people’s lives. On that front, the evidence of transformation remains visible, verifiable, and forward-looking. This is no doubt the case in Gov Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration.
