Organized by Ambassador Onyinye Joy Mamah, the founder of Loudest Voices for Peter Mbah, women groups across Enugu State have poured encomiums on the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his outstanding performance and transformative leadership, noting that he has continued to demonstrate strong commitment to good governance and inclusive development. They particularly commended his strides in gender mainstreaming and the inclusion of women in politics, citing the numerous women currently occupying key political appointments under his administration. It is in view of these achievements that the groups appealed to the governor to further consolidate his legacy by supporting the emergence of a female senator in the state.

The position was made known during a press briefing held at Okpara Square, where a coalition of women’s groups converged to advocate for increased female representation, particularly in the Senate.

The gathering, led by Amb. Onyinye Joy Mamah, brought together several groups including Enugu State Jesus Wives, Governor Peter Mbah Authentic Squad, Women Wing 'City Boy Movement', Umuada Peter Mbah, Resilient Divine Widows, and Women Supporting Women Empowerment Group.

The event featured solidarity songs and strong commendations for Governor Mbah’s developmental strides, with speakers highlighting achievements in infrastructure expansion, Smart Green Schools, increased internally generated revenue, investment drives, urban renewal, smart city initiatives, education funding, creative industry promotion, and the establishment of Enugu Air.

Delivering the opening address, Ambassador Mamah praised the governor’s leadership style and commitment to gender inclusion, describing him as a “disruptive innovator.” She noted with concern the absence of female senatorial representation in Enugu State since 1999 and urged the governor to support the emergence of at least one female senator.

“…We found out that 26 years after the inception of democratic rule, we are yet to record a woman as a senator from 1999 to date. We have had men occupying the position over the years, but in your administration, we have seen you appoint women effortlessly into key positions. We are therefore appealing that you consider supporting at least one woman in the Senate, two men and one woman…”

She further referenced an existing vacancy and called for the consideration of qualified women, particularly from the Nsukka axis, while also advocating for the implementation of 35 percent affirmative action in leadership positions.

Subsequent speakers reinforced the appeal. Ojukwu Ifeyinwa from Enugu East Local Government commended the governor’s continued inclusion of women in governance and urged him to expand opportunities for women, noting their significant contributions during elections.

“…Please, Your Excellency, we know there are capable women in our midst who can deliver. We appeal that women be considered in filling available positions…”

The final speaker, Ogechukwu Chukwubuikem, highlighted the administration’s achievements across critical sectors including education, aviation, healthcare, and transportation, while describing Governor Mbah as a compassionate and people-oriented leader.

“…You have done so well, and we sincerely appreciate you. You are a people-centered governor who finds joy in impacting lives. That is why we have come together to plead with you once again. Please, do this for us. We assure you of our continued support till the very end…”

The women concluded the briefing with songs of appreciation and renewed pledges of support for the governor, reiterating their demand for greater female representation in Enugu State’s political leadership.

The event ended with a unified call for action, particularly for the inclusion of women in the Senate. The groups expressed optimism that Governor Peter Mbah would consider their appeal in line with his administration’s established record on inclusivity and progressive governance. The gathering further underscored the growing determination among women in the state to influence policy direction and secure equitable participation in leadership.
