Enugu State Governor, , has officially flagged off the construction of key infrastructure projects at the Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences in Oji River and Awgu, marking a significant step in the administration’s drive to strengthen healthcare education in the state.

The projects include the construction of an Administrative Block, modern classrooms, and a 176-bed hostel at the Oji River Campus, alongside a 200-bed hostel at the Awgu Campus. The groundbreaking ceremonies were performed on Thursday across the two locations.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Yomi Jaye, Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing education and healthcare as critical pillars of development.

The governor also announced the approval for the comprehensive renovation of the Administrative Block, classrooms, and hostel facilities at the Enugu State College of Health Technology, Oji River, further underscoring the government’s holistic approach to revitalizing health institutions.

Speaking during the event, Mbah urged residents of Oji River and Awgu to cooperate fully with contractors to ensure timely delivery of the projects. He revealed that the government is targeting the admission of the first batch of students into the Oji River Campus before the end of 2026.

In his remarks, the Provost of the Enugu State College of Health Technology, Oji River, Dr. Lazarus Ezeugwu, described the intervention as a transformative development, noting that it would reposition the institution for excellence and elevate its status among peer institutions.

Similarly, the Provost of the Parklane and Awgu Campuses of the College of Nursing Sciences, Dr. Peace Anih, commended the governor for his visionary leadership, stating that the projects would make Enugu a reference point in healthcare training. She assured that necessary measures would be put in place to safeguard the facilities upon completion.

Contractors handling the projects were given a four-month timeline to deliver, reflecting the administration’s urgency in addressing infrastructure gaps in the health education sector.

The initiative is widely seen as part of Governor Mbah’s broader agenda to reposition Enugu State as a hub for quality education and healthcare services in Nigeria.
