Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye is a Nigerian legal practitioner, corporate executive, political strategist, and academic with over thirty years of professional experience in both Nigeria and the United States. He is known for combining international legal knowledge with a strong understanding of Nigeria’s corporate and political environments. Dr. Nwoye currently serves as a Visiting Lecturer at the Institute for Peace, Conflict and Development Studies, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), where he teaches Governance, National Cohesion, and Conflict Management.
Dr. Nwoye was born on May 28, 1964, in Enugu State, Nigeria, and comes from Nkanu West Local Government Area. He is married and resides at No. 32 Jesy and Jenny Road, Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. His home address is in Amurri Town, Nkanu West, Enugu State.
He holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago, Illinois, USA. He obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) from Akpo Grammar School, Ozuoba, Rivers State, and his First School Leaving Certificate from Ama-Igbo Primary School, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Dr. Nwoye has held significant positions across law, corporate management, and politics. In the United States, he was the Principal Partner of Mendoza and Nwoye PLC, a law firm he co-founded, where he practiced corporate, civil, and immigration law, represented clients in complex cases, and led the firm’s administration. In Nigeria, he serves as Executive Director of Opeans Nigeria Ltd, overseeing strategy, operations, financial management, business development, and client relations. He is also the Managing Director of Offshore Resort Ltd in Warri, Delta State, where he manages hospitality operations, guest services, marketing, financial performance, and quality assurance.
In addition to his corporate work, Dr. Nwoye has a strong political career. He served as Commissioner representing the South-East Zone at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) from 2021 to 2024. He was Chief of Staff to the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from 2024 to 2025 and has held leadership roles in APC Enugu State, including Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee from 2025 to the present, and Chairman of the State Chapter from 2014 to 2021. He has also served as Secretary of the Forum of APC State Chairmen and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Enugu State. His political work involves party administration, coalition building, inter-governmental coordination, and implementation of electoral strategies.
Dr. Nwoye is an active media commentator and political analyst, appearing regularly on television stations including TVC News, Arise Television, Channels Television, NTA, AIT, Afia TV, ESBS, Signature TV, Freedom TV, and Square TV, as well as radio platforms such as Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dream FM, Solid FM, Urban Radio, and Raypower FM.
He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a former member of the American Bar Association (ABA). His professional skills include leadership, strategic planning, team building, negotiation, and decision-making, along with communication skills such as public speaking, media relations, report writing, and advocacy. Dr. Nwoye is proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases. He is fluent in English, Igbo, and Nigerian Pidgin.
Dr. Ben is vying to be elected as the Deputy National Chairman South of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, which the National Working Committee (NWC) has zoned to Enugu State, and has all the necessary ingredients to do well for the party.
