The vision of transforming Enugu into a major healthcare destination in Nigeria is steadily becoming a reality as the state’s ambitious 300-bed Enugu International Hospital nears completion.

The ultra-modern facility, one of the flagship projects of the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is expected to be completed around April this year, paving the way for the state to position itself as a hub for medical excellence and health tourism in the country.

Disclosing this in a recent interview, the Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Osy Okoro, stated that construction work on the world-class medical complex has reached an advanced stage and is progressing in line with the administration’s commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare infrastructure.

According to him, the completion of the project will mark a major milestone in the ongoing healthcare revolution in Enugu State, as the facility is designed to attract patients from across Nigeria and beyond.

He noted that the hospital, conceived as a 300-bed international-standard medical center, will be equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, specialized treatment units, modern surgical theatres, intensive care facilities, and advanced medical wards capable of handling complex medical cases.

Okoro emphasized that the project reflects the administration’s broader strategy to reduce outbound medical tourism while creating the capacity for world-class healthcare delivery within Nigeria.

The commissioner also commended Governor Mbah for what he described as visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to human capital development, particularly in the health sector. He noted that the governor’s bold investments in healthcare infrastructure are already laying the foundation for Enugu to emerge as a leading destination for quality medical services.

Stakeholders have equally praised the pace and quality of work at the site, describing the project as a strong demonstration of purposeful governance and disciplined execution.

Beyond the construction of the international hospital, the state government has continued to implement wider reforms aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery. These include upgrading primary healthcare centers, improving digital health systems, and enhancing the recruitment of skilled medical professionals.

With the finishing touches underway and completion expected in April, the Enugu International Hospital is widely seen as a landmark project that will not only improve healthcare access for residents but also position Enugu as a major center for medical tourism in Nigeria.

For many observers, the project stands as a clear testament to Governor Mbah’s determination to translate bold ideas into concrete achievements, reinforcing the state’s reputation as one of the country’s fastest-growing centers for development and innovation.
