An attempted coup was swiftly foiled in Benin early this morning after a group of about ten soldiers stormed the national television station and briefly took control of the airwaves.

The mutineers managed to broadcast a short message announcing the removal of President Patrice Talon and the creation of a transitional committee allegedly headed by an officer identifying himself as Lieutenant Colonel Tigri Pascal.

Security sources confirmed that the Republican Guard responded promptly, neutralizing the group and restoring control of the strategic broadcast facility.

According to the same sources, President Patrice Talon is safe, secure, and currently in a protected location. An official government statement is expected in the coming hours to provide further details on the attempted destabilization and outline measures being taken to safeguard national security.
