The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, has resigned from his position.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Oyebamiji as NIWA MD on 25 October 2023, naming him to lead the agency under his marine and blue economy agenda.

Oyebamiji announced his resignation on Friday, stating that he was stepping down to pursue his ambition in the 2026 Osun State governorship election, in compliance with electoral law which requires public office holders to resign before contesting in elections.

A source close to the former NIWA boss indicated that his decision is directly tied to his plans to participate fully in the upcoming polls.

Before leading NIWA, Oyebamiji served Osun State in various capacities, including two terms as Commissioner for Finance and later as Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

His career spans banking, economics, public administration, and politics, giving him extensive experience in both governance and administration.
