Hails Governor Peter Mbah for Elevating Competence, Loyalty and Grassroots Leadership
The G-17 Grassroots Mobilisation Force for Governor Peter Mbah has expressed delight over the appointment of its Convener and Board of Trustees Chairman, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, as a key member of the newly inaugurated Enugu State Committee to Review State-Controlled Taxes and Revenues.
In a congratulatory message signed by the G-17 BOT Legal Adviser, Barr. Marcel Nnachetam, the group described Hon. Mbah’s appointment as a well-earned recognition of his unwavering service, deep grassroots engagement, and the pivotal leadership roles he has played in supporting the Mbah administration’s market reforms over the past year.
According to G-17, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah once again demonstrated exceptional leadership by appointing a team of competent professionals and grassroots-rooted actors to undertake one of the state’s most strategic economic assignments. The nine-man committee includes:
- Ikechukwu Ezenwukwa, Solicitor-General of Enugu State (Chairman)
- Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, SSA to the Governor on Market Matters
- Adenike Okebu, SSA on Revenue Mobilisation
- Comrade Ben Asogwa, TUC Chairman, Enugu State
- Chief Chinwuba Igwesi, Chairman, Enugu State Market Association
- Ngozi Ezema, Head of Legal, ESIRS
- Engr. Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe, 1st Deputy President, ECCIMA
- Hon. Paul Okwo, Deputy Council Chairman / ALGON Rep
- Barr. Crownwell Chibuzo, Civil Society Representative
The movement noted that Hon. Dr. Mbah’s role in reorganising market structures, restoring peace among traders, resolving years-long leadership crises, and strengthening market–government relations made his appointment not just merited, but inevitable. “His track record speaks loudly and convincingly,” the statement read.
G-17 emphasized that the Governor’s choice reflects his commitment to building a modern, transparent, and investor-friendly revenue system driven by competence, data, and integrity. They affirmed that Hon. Mbah’s experience in market coordination, dispute mediation, and harmonisation places him in a unique position to contribute meaningfully to reforms that will reshape the state’s revenue ecosystem.
The statement further applauded Governor Mbah for recognising and elevating grassroots leaders who have demonstrated loyalty, capacity, and results, describing it as a bold example of governance driven by merit rather than politics.
“Enugu is witnessing a new era where excellence is rewarded,” G-17 declared, adding that the appointment is also a validation of the movement’s relevance and influence in the state’s political landscape.
The group expressed confidence that the committee will deliver a comprehensive review that addresses multiple taxation, ensures fairness, strengthens compliance, and improves citizen experience in all revenue-related activities. They prayed for God’s guidance upon Hon. Dr. Mbah and assured him of the movement’s full support as he undertakes this critical assignment.
G-17 concluded by reiterating its commitment to supporting Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s transformational agenda, stating that Enugu State is rising on the foundation of capacity, vision, and strategic leadership, and that “tomorrow is truly here.”
