The wife of the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Mrs. Ngozi Ogbodo, has strongly condemned the tragic incident of domestic violence that led to the death of Mrs. Onyiyechi Okoh, a native of Amurri community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Mrs. Ogbodo described the act as inhuman, senseless, and deeply disturbing, stressing that violence in any form undermines the values of peace, dignity, and respect that the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah stands for.
While condemning the act, Mrs. Ogbodo reaffirmed the Enugu State Government’s unwavering commitment under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration to ending domestic violence and ensuring that culprits face the full weight of the law. She assured residents that the government remains resolute in protecting the rights and safety of all citizens, particularly women and children, across the state.
“The death of Mrs. Onyiyechi Okoh is a painful and condemnable tragedy. The Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Mbah has made it clear that any form of domestic violence will not be tolerated. The government is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to book,” Mrs. Ogbodo stated.
She commended the First Lady of Enugu State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for her tireless advocacy and leadership in promoting the rights and welfare of women and for her sustained campaign against domestic and gender-based violence.
Mrs. Ogbodo also appreciated the Governor, the security agencies, and the people of Amurri community for their swift response, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
Expressing her sympathy to the bereaved family, she urged them to remain calm and allow justice to take its full course, emphasizing that the government is already on top of the matter.
“I deeply sympathize with the family of the deceased and the good people of Amurri. I appeal to everyone not to take the law into their own hands. The government is committed to ensuring that justice is done and seen to be done. This should serve as a strong warning that domestic violence has no place in our society,” she added.
Mrs. Ogbodo reaffirmed her continued partnership with the Office of the First Lady in advancing initiatives that promote peaceful homes, women empowerment, and zero tolerance for violence in all its forms. She called on traditional leaders, faith-based groups, and community organizations to intensify advocacy and education on conflict resolution and mutual respect within families.
She extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, emphasizing that justice will be served
“I sympathize with the family of the deceased. No form of violence is acceptable in our homes or society. I appeal to everyone not to take the law into their own hands, as the government is already handling the matter to ensure justice is done,” she stated.
She concluded by calling on community leaders, religious heads, and advocacy groups to join the government to intensify public enlightenment campaigns against domestic violence and to encourage victims to speak up and seek help.
