In a bid to enhance food security in the state, the office of the Enugu State Firstq Lady in collaboration with the ministry of Agriculture and Agro industrialization, has introduced Agricultural Empowerment Initiative aimed at supporting hardworking farmers by providing them with essential fertilizers needed to enhance their productivity.

Performing the function at the Post Primary Schools Management Board Parliament hall on Wednesday, where over 600 bags of Fertilizer were distributed to Enugu farmers, the First Lady, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah said fertilizer is key in boosting crop yields, improving soil fertility and ensuring that farmers grow healthier and more abundant harvests.

Our Government House Correspondent Fred Nnaji reports that Mrs Mbah who cautioned the farmers not to sell the fertilizers, noted that by empowering them with the fertilizers, the state is strengthening the entire agricultural sector, saying the initiative will reduce the need for food imports, stabilise prices, and guarantee that no family goes hungry.

She said increased crop output means more food on the tables of the people, higher incomes for families and a more robust economy for Enugu.

Also the commissioner for Agriculture and Agro industrialization, Patrick Ubru, represented by the Special Adviser to the governor on Agriculture, Mike Ogbuekwe, while reminding the farmers of the state government's plans to eradicate hunger and poverty in the state, called on them to take agriculture very seriously to be self-reliant.

Some of the beneficiaries, Barr Ifeanyi Odoh and Mrs Ifeoma Anih who appreciated the first lady for the gesture, promised to make judicious use of the fertilizer for the good of their families and the state at large as such will help farmers expand their cultivation.
