Information reaching BaseTvReport indicates that the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has detained several senior officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, including a Brigadier-General, over an alleged plot to overthrow President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to top military sources, no fewer than sixteen officers, ranging from the rank of Captain to Brigadier-General, were apprehended following what security insiders described as a coordinated intelligence operation involving multiple security agencies.

While the Defence Headquarters, in an official statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, attributed the arrests to “disciplinary issues and grievances over career stagnation,” internal sources within the Defence Intelligence community suggest that the matter runs deeper.

“The arrests are linked to a failed plan by some senior officers to stage a coup against the sitting government,” one insider disclosed to BaseTvReport, adding that the move was intercepted through early intelligence gathering.

It was further gathered that the detained officers had reportedly held secret meetings and were allegedly preparing to seize power from what they termed “self-serving politicians.” They were picked up from various locations across the country and are currently being held at the DIA headquarters for interrogation.

Multiple security sources also hinted that the October 1st Independence Day parade was quietly cancelled due to security concerns surrounding the alleged plot. Intelligence reports had reportedly warned that the coup was scheduled to unfold during the national celebration in Abuja.

Since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, the country has witnessed multiple military coups, and this development has sparked renewed concerns about stability within the Armed Forces.

Authorities have yet to release the names of the detained officers, while investigations continue amid heightened security surveillance across key military formations nationwide.
