It was an interesting event on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in the city of Lagos as graduates of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, converged to witness the historic inauguration of the Lagos State branch of the IMT Alumni Association, the first of its kind since the reconstitution of the association’s national executive.

The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia, renewed commitment, and excitement as old classmates reconnected, sharing memories of their time at IMT while embracing the call to give back to the institution that shaped their journeys.

The event, which marked a symbolic milestone for the alumni community, was graced by the Rector of IMT, Professor Gozie Ogbodo, who delivered a stirring message of hope, transformation, and collective responsibility.

“IMT is no longer the Institute you left,” Prof. Ogbodo declared, his voice filled with conviction. “We are repositioning ourselves as a centre of excellence in technology, innovation, and management education, and we need you, our alumni, to join hands with us in building the IMT of our collective dreams.”

The Rector highlighted the ongoing transformation within the institution, from infrastructural development to digital reforms, and called on alumni to partner in upgrading facilities, providing scholarships, mentoring students, and sponsoring innovation hubs that would prepare students for the global stage.

“This inauguration is not just a ceremony; it is the birth of a movement,” Prof. Ogbodo added, urging members to see the new chapter as a platform to give back and invest in the future of IMT.

The event also had in attendance Sir Frank Aigbogun, Chairman of the IMT Board of Trustees and founder of BusinessDay Newspaper, who emphasised the role of alumni in building institutions that last, and Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu, National President of the IMT Alumni Association, who commended the resilience of the Lagos chapter in coming together to advance the association’s objectives.

Also present was Barr. Mark Akunna Eze, Public Relations Officer of IMT, who reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining open channels with alumni and ensuring their contributions directly impact the institution’s development. The event was further honoured by the representative of Dr. Uche Samson Ogah, a BOT member and former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, reflecting the broad support for the association’s vision.

Attendees shared a collective sense of pride and purpose as conversations shifted from memories of lectures and hostel life to practical strategies for supporting IMT’s transformation agenda.

For many, the event was a reminder that IMT is not just a place they passed through but a legacy they are responsible for nurturing.

As the Lagos chapter officially came alive, alumni expressed readiness to kickstart programmes that would provide scholarships for indigent students, establish mentorship pipelines, and support the institution’s dream of building a generation of globally competitive and socially responsible graduates.

In the words of Prof. Ogbodo, “Let this be the beginning of a new chapter a chapter of transformation, unity, and shared responsibility.”
