BREAKING! Police Arrest Two Over Murder of Female Bank Manager Despite N14m Ransom Payment

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the January 2025 kidnap and murder of a female bank manager identified as Ifeoma. The suspects, 32-year-old Monday Egbe and 28-year-old Kenneth Nnoga, were apprehended on May 28 following intensive investigations that led operatives to their hideout in a neighbouring state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the victim’s lifeless body was found along Nnobi Road with her eyes tied, days after the kidnappers had received a ₦14 million ransom from her family. Preliminary findings suggest the deceased may have recognized her abductors, prompting her murder to prevent identification. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, while the police continue efforts to track down other gang members. Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured the public of justice and renewed commitment to tackling violent crime in the state.

At a public lecture held in Abuja to mark the 60th birthday of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, top opposition leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai and Amaechi himself, declared their determination to remove President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking on the theme “Weaponisation of Poverty as a Means of Underdevelopment,” Atiku accused the current administration of deliberately impoverishing citizens, while Amaechi emphasized his refusal to support Tinubu due to lack of competence. El-Rufai echoed the need for a united opposition to reclaim power.

The event also featured remarks by Cardinal John Onaiyekan and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, both of whom criticized the elite’s disconnect from the reality of poverty in Nigeria. Sanusi questioned the nation’s development priorities, while Prof. Usman Yusuf highlighted the growing intersection between poverty and public health crises. Dr. Chidi Amuta, the guest lecturer, stressed that democracy in Africa often fails to improve citizens’ lives due to poor governance and corruption.
