The ongoing effort to reposition markets across Enugu State received a significant boost as the Market Monitoring Team, led by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Market Liaison, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, visited Ugwuoba Cattle Market on 2nd April 2025. This visit was part of a broader initiative to take the message of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to all markets in the state.
The team began their visit with a stop at the Oji-River Local Government Area, where they were received by the Deputy Chairman, Barrister Saint Nwokolo, who assured the team of the local government’s full cooperation in their efforts. The team then proceeded to Ugwuoba Cattle Market, where they were warmly welcomed by the market’s Secretary, Abdullah Muhammad.
During the visit, SSA Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah addressed the traders, emphasizing the need for peace, proper tax payment, and the importance of avoiding the reconstruction of illegal structures in the market. He also urged the traders to embrace e-payment methods for tax transactions rather than resorting to cash payments. The traders listened attentively to the SSA's directives and expressed their willingness to comply with the regulations.
However, they raised a crucial request: they appealed to the state government for assistance in fencing the market and establishing a well-organized market plan to help their businesses flourish. The SSA assured them that their concerns would be communicated to Governor Peter Mbah. The visit to Cattle Market was an important step in the ongoing collaboration between the Enugu State government and market leaders, with both parties committed to ensuring the orderly development and sustainability of the state's markets. The SSA’s visit further solidified the government’s commitment to providing necessary interventions for the improvement of market infrastructure and the welfare of traders.
