The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Enugu State Chapter, recently had a productive engagement with the Hon. Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Enugu State, Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jnr., at his office in Enugu. The meeting, which also saw the presence of Mrs. Ethel Chidimma Ezezue, the HOD of Youth at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Enugu State, affectionately known as “Mummy Youths,” marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between the youth body and the state government.
Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jnr. welcomed the delegation warmly, commending the Youth Assembly for its outstanding leadership in organizing a free, fair, and transparent election that demonstrated their commitment to bringing about positive change. He expressed his appreciation for the leadership qualities and polished presentations of the local government leaders within the assembly, noting that their speeches showcased the true essence of responsible leadership.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of building strong organizational structures at the grassroots level, drawing parallels to the leadership style of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, and his #TomorrowIsHere initiative. He further acknowledged YAN as the most disciplined and coordinated youth body in Nigeria, recognizing their energetic and vibrant leadership as an inspiration to others across the nation.
However, during his interaction, the Commissioner also addressed a concern, urging the youths to collaborate more effectively and adopt a responsible approach when tackling challenges. He emphasized that unity and collective effort are key to securing the future of Nigeria, particularly as it pertains to the role that young people play in shaping the nation.
Reaffirming his support for the youth, Hon. Ekweremadu Jnr. assured the assembly that his office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, would continue to create avenues for youth empowerment and development in Enugu State.
In response, the leadership of YAN, 4th Republic, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, for appointing such a dynamic and intelligent Commissioner. They acknowledged that his appointment is a clear demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to prioritizing the youth and their well-being in Enugu State.
The Youth Assembly also reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting Governor Ndubuisi’s vision to grow Enugu State’s economy from a 4.8 billion GPR/income to a projected 30 billion. They pledged to actively contribute to this vision by fostering youth empowerment, creating opportunities, and furthering the development of the state.
The delegation was led by Hon. Ezenwata Nwangwu, the outgoing National Deputy Speaker and National Assistant Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of YAN. The visit also includes other notable figures such as Ambassador-elect Chidubem Ugwueze (JP), Speaker-elect/Leader of Oji-River LGA Ugochukwu Onyeachonam, and Ugochukwu Ezea, Chairman of the Inauguration Committee and Zonal Leader of Enugu North Senatorial Zone. Also in attendance were Chidi Ugwu, Majority Leader/Leader of Igbo-Etiti LGA, Hon. Joseph Nwamazi, Special Assistant on Media to the Chairman of Aninri LGA, and Onyekachi Nsude, Minority Leader/Leader of Enugu South LGA, among other prominent leaders from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State.
This meeting served to strengthen the bond between the Youth Assembly and the state government, reaffirming the collective commitment to the growth, empowerment, and development of the youth of Enugu State. It solidified the position of the Youth Assembly as a driving force for positive change and innovation, poised to make a significant impact on the future of the state.
