The Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS), Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani has reeled out the achievements of the Agency in 2024, one of which was the realisation of N321 billion revenue for the state government.
Nnamani spoke during a holy mass at the Agency's Head Office quadrangle to formally mark the beginning of another work year.
He said that for the year 2025, the Agency has set a target of over N509 billion as revenue to be generated for the state.
"This year, our target is over N509billion. It may sound a herculean task to us but I can assure you, we will do it. The way and manner we will get this money will shock everyone. Last year, when we got a target of N321 billion, people expressed doubts if we would be able to achieve it, but we did it, which has never been achieved in the history of the State," Nnamani said.
He further said the Agency has assured the State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of its unwavering commitment to helping the State achieve the N971 billion “2025 Budget of Exponential Economic Growth and Inclusive Prosperity”.
The ESIRS boss noted that the State Government has made progress in various sectors such as the health sector, infrastructure development, and road construction.
"Over 90 roads have been completed and health centres has been commissioned among other achievements. Also, with the new security camera systems, we can sit anywhere and see all parts of Enugu. This security system will benefit the entire State," he said.
To achieve this year's target, Nnamani outlined new measures to be adopted by the Agency including collection of the Land Use Charge, Stamp Duty, collection of taxes from landlords on rental income received, as well as recovery of outstanding tax liabilities from local governments.
He also mentioned that the organization will conduct tax audits on companies that have failed to pay their taxes in the past.
Nnamani expressed confidence that the ESIRS will reach its goals with over 500 staff members working towards collecting revenue for the State.
The ESIRS Chairman also thanked Father Clifford, who officiated in the Mass, for his support and prayers, urging everyone to pray for him and his team as they work towards achieving their targets.
He assured the people that the State Government will not relent in speedy execution of projects across the State.
