In the Ikwa community near Zuba, within the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, some youths confronted and apprehended two suspected hoodlums accused of stealing transformer cables. The incident occurred on Monday around 10:23 pm, when the suspects invaded a transformer in the area and cut off two cables. The theft was noticed by a neighbor, who saw the suspects removing the cables and alerted other residents.
The hoodlums took advantage of a power outage to carry out the theft, but were unaware that a resident had seen them. The resident quietly alerted other neighbors, and upon realizing that people were approaching, the suspects attempted to flee but were caught by the mob. The suspects were then tied up, and vigilantes were called to the scene to take them away.
A local vigilante, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident, stating that the two hoodlums were arrested for attempting to steal transformer cables and handed over to security personnel. The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, mentioned that the command was not initially aware of the incident but promised to investigate further.
This incident has drawn attention to the issue of transformer cable thefts in the region, which continue to pose a serious challenge to the security and infrastructure of the area.
