WORLD SCIENCE DAY 2024: Enugu State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Tech Promotes Global Well-being Through Science

The Enugu State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology successfully organized the 2024 World Science Day celebration, aligning with the global theme "Global Science for Global Wellbeing". The event, held at the State Secretariat Auditorium, brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including education, research and government.


In his keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Engr Prince Lawrence Ezeh, emphasized the importance of science in addressing global challenges and promoting wellbeing. He highlighted the state government's commitment to investing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and research.


He highlighted that this year’s theme acts as a key factor in the current scientific revolution in the State. Adding that the state government’s vision for the future is seeing that science and technology are fully integrated into people’s lives on daily basis as a catalyst for development and progress.


The event featured a series of activities, including:


*Sensitization*: Prior to the grand finale, a road show was held to sensitize the public on the importance of science and technology in our day to day life.


 *Science Examination*: Students from secondary schools were examined with some scientific questions to see how prepared they are to face the scientific revolution in the state.


*Lecture Series*: The Principal Research officer at Project Development Institute (PRODA ) Mr Chigozie Ichu delivered lectures on topics such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and disease prevention, emphasizing the role of science in promoting global wellbeing.

According to Mr Ichu, “we should go back to the basics in global science to follow the initiative in creating science and assist in the formulation of policies, looking at some of the challenges which could include funding and culture”.


*Panel Discussion*: A panel of experts discussed the theme "Global Science for Global Wellbeing", exploring ways to harness science and technology to address global challenges.


*Awards Ceremony*: Outstanding students in the scientific examination were rewarded financially for their great performances.


The 2024 World Science Day celebration in Enugu State demonstrated the government's dedication to promoting science, technology, and innovation as drivers of sustainable development and global wellbeing.


In attendance were the Honourable Commissioners for Youth and Sports, Children and gender affairs, Labour and Productivity, Chairman House Committee on Education.Also the Head of Service, Directors from FIIRO, SEDI,Research officer from PRODA and the chairman of STVSMB.
