Two Pupils from Igbariam Primary School II, Achara Layout Enugu, Master Prosper Ugwu and Miss Okey Edeh Esther have emerged as state champions in the finals of this year's Enugu State Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) Quiz Competition.
The two children scored 97 and 87.5 percent respectively, in both written examinations and quiz competitions organized by the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) for all the Public Primary Schools in the state.
*As the state champions, Master Ugwu and Miss Edeh will represent Enugu State in the Junior category at the National (JETS) competition scheduled to be held in Abuja from 3rd to 10th November 2024.*
*Also, during the state finals of the competition, two contestants, Miss Ozioko Chioma and Miss Eze Divine from Model Primary School I, Nsukka, scored 85.5 and 69.5 percent, respectively, to win 3rd and 4th positions.*
*It will be recalled that two contestants each that emerged champions from their respective Educational Zones of the state: Awgu, Enugu, Nkanu, Nsukka, Obollo, and Udi, took part in the state finals of the contest.*
*Also, one Master, Aninwafor Goodness Chigozie from Ogbozinne Primary School Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area, was the only candidate who presented two projects he produced.*
*Master Aninwafor produced/fabricated a standing fan and standing electric lamp powered by dry-cell batteries.*
*The contestants wrote exams from Basic Science, Basic Technology, Computer, and Mathematics, and quizzes from the same subjects ably handled by the quiz mistress and Education Secretary from Enugu North, Mrs Ekwutosi Ozougwu.*
*Speaking shortly after the competition, the Desk Officer (JET’s), Mr. Hillary Ikeanyionwu, described the state final of the contest as a huge success and congratulated the two state champions, Master Ugwu and Miss Edeh, for their brilliant performance at the competition.*
*Mr. Ikeanyionwu, who is also the Head of the Unit, Junior Secondary School competition at ENSUBEB, also used the occasion to thank the Executive Chairman of ENSUBEB, Associate Professor Hyginus Banko Okibe, for providing all the needed support and logistics that made this year’s competition successful.*
*He disclosed that the JET’s Quiz Competition is an annual event and appealed to JET’s facilitators in all the public schools in the state to endeavour to start on time to prepare their contestants for the competition for a better outing and results.*
*The Desk Officer, however, commended the teachers who prepared their pupils at various levels and urged JET’s facilitators from the school where the state champions emerged to do more work to prepare them for the National Competition so that they could win the first position for the state.*
*The Quiz Mistress and Education Secretary, Mrs Ozouwgu, in her brief remarks, appreciated all the pupils who took part in the State Finals of the contest for their active participation, pointing out that in every competition, there must be successful ones and losers.*
*She, therefore, advised those who were unable to make it this year to go back and do more work to prepare for next year’s competition.*
